“In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue,” as we were made to memorize in first grade. Imagine the feeling Columbus must have felt surrounding his journey into the unknown! Convincing Ferdinand and Isabella to fund his wild idea to let him sail off the edge of the earth and trust that he wouldn’t fall into the abyss took conviction. Enlisting sailors to take the chance and come aboard took courage and charm. And trusting himself that he was going to achieve something historically noteworthy took, well, a certain level of optimistic delusion.
As the departure date came closer, Columbus must have had so many emotions and convictions root into his mind before sailing into the unknown. What an adventure awaited him in just days! Then sailing away, the excitement must have been drowned out by the daily tasks that kept the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria sailing across never-ending blue ocean, keeping morale high and navigating around or through storms and uncharted waters.
At least that is my perspective now as we are about to embark on an uncharted journey of our own. Monday we are set to finally pull out and begin our #JourneyHomeBusTour around the country preparing to open new social homes and raise capital for our new syndication. Mason will be joining Sherlock and me as we leave from South Florida and begin traveling up the east coast before heading west to Colorado. Our plans include starting homes in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and an apartment complex in Colorado Springs. This is so exciting for all of us here at Sherlock’s Homes Foundation with six months of preparation finally ready to go. It will not be perfect, but it is a start. Thank you to all of you who have been helping us see this vision to reality as we have navigated obstacle and delays over and over again. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
And like with Columbus, all of this is easier with funding. So feel free to make a donation to help us create our version of a New World.
Your fan,
Jacob Jennings
